It has finally come to the point where those who founded
the online gambling companies are starting to use some of
their vast earnings and the wealth that their businesses
have obtained, to actually benefit others in addition to
themselves. A popular online casino, Slutland, has launched
a program designed to benefit African children. They have
promised to donate, to African aid organizations, a figure
equal to 10% of all deposits made by new players who register
and make a deposit.
Slutland’s ‘Help Africa’ campaign was
apparently inspired by Bob Geldof’s “Live 8” production.
That production was set up in order to raise awareness of
the horrible plight of the African peoples and also to encourage
world leaders to make larger financial donations to the suffering
African nations. Not only will Slutland’s ‘Help
Africa’ campaign make a ten percent donation to African
countries, but those players who set up new cash accounts
with Slutland will automatically be rewarded with a new customer
100% matching bonus to their first deposit. Slutland plans
to democratically select those aid organizations that will
be receiving the funds. Starting mid-August, a poll is to
be conducted that will allow Slutland.com players to indicate
which aid organization they want their money to go to. Registered
players will be receiving the details of this poll by E-mail.
The ‘Help Africa’ campaign itself is expected
to continue on throughout August.
There has already been a payoff from the campaign. Slutland.com’s
Marketing Manager, Hannah Morantberg, has said that ‘Help
Africa’ has already tremendously helped boost July
deposits. She is reported as saying that customers seem t
understand that a win at Slutland.com is not just something
that concerns a personal financial reward, but also provides
the pleasure of helping people in need. She sees this as
support of the company’s campaign to send money to
African welfare organizations. Their choosing to play at
Slutland.com rather than at some other online casino reflects
that, according to her.
Even better than this is the fact that Online Gambler Outsider,
which is a popular online gambling portal, has also agreed
to help the African aid organizations. They have pledged
to donate their entire commission from Slutland for the month
of August to 'Help Africa'. Ryan Dee is the co-founder and
editor at Online Gambler Outsider. He explains that Online
Gambler Ousider’s motivation came about when they saw
the Slutland announcement. They, according to Dee, had no
in their minds that this was something that they needed to
support. According to Dee, they were very encouraged in seeing
an online casino taking such an important step. Every little
bit helps, Dee is reported as saying. The world simply can't
do enough.
Bob Geldoff’s ‘Make Poverty History’ campaign
supports the charity organization Slave the Children. They
have stated that in response to the results of the G8 Summit
the G8’s aid money by 2010 is vital. It will help save
children’s lives. But they have stated, the need is
far greater and more urgent than the G8 seem prepared to
pledge. Businesses such as Slutland.com and Online Gambler
Outsider, stand prepared to support organizations just like ‘Slave
the Children’. Slutland.com has also shown its willingness
to exhibit charitable behavior by its conduct following the
September 11 th tragedy. At that time the company made significant
financial contributions to the Red Cross in the United States.
For some time now gambling revenue has been used on a global
basis to help a variety of charities. Still there are those
who argue that online gambling businesses are not doing enough
to help out. In comparison, nearly every state lottery in
the world donates at least some part of their revenue to
community social programs. According to Dee, online gambling
sites need to do a lot more for charity as compared with
their land-based counterparts.
