No one can deny the astounding growth in popularity of
online gambling, still some are saying that this accelerated
growth of the online gambling industry is destined to peter
out, and soon. They believe that such record growth cannot
be sustained indefinitely. Still others point to amazing
developments in technology and argue that this new technology
will make online gambling even more accessible and, therefore,
even more popular. They indicate such technologies as the
3G cell phones, along with faster, and cheaper broadband
Internet connections, and interactive television technology
which allows your television to act as a computer. These
advances, it is argued, are making gambling over the Internet
even more simple, and more accessible, as well as being faster.
It is their belief that this will result in even more of
society playing at online casinos.
Global Wagering and Gaming Consultants (GWGC), a concern
of online gambling industry experts, are advancing this second
observation. The firm’s leading partner, Harwick Bartlett,
states that online betting has become so simple and it is
now so easy to play from your home that future growth of
the industry is assured.
As additional proof of GWGC’s position, online gambling
companies such as Sportings and Bet and BetandPray, have
seen their share values growing by leaps and bounds during
the past year. The incredible popularity of online poker,
is without doubt, a driving force with regard to the growing
success of these two companies. This may be seen by the fact
that both companies experienced a marked increase in the
value of their company’s stock after either acquiring
an online poker site or joining in partnership with a poker
site operation. The resulting figures support this. SportingsBet
reports a 358 percent increase in the stock prices of online
poker sites within the last 12 months. There is a reported
256 percent growth in share values since January 2005, alone.
In support of this trend, SportingsBet acquired the online
poker site, Pacific Poker, during the last quarter of 2004.
Also, BetandPray jumped to 18 th place in May, after being
listed as being in 41 st place in January’s GWGC’s
Global Gambling 50 index of the leading Internet gambling
companies. BetandPray is in partnership with the Poker Us
network.
