Sportsbooks.com, is headquartered in London, England. It
is the flagship brand for Sportingbets PLC. The company reports
a rising trend in the online gambling community. This trend
which is betting on major world tennis tournaments, had become
evident when record numbers of bets were placed in the last
weekend of the tournament during the recently completed French
open. Sportingbets, is the world’s biggest publicly
traded online betting, gambling and gaming company. In addition
to sports betting , it offers such products as horse race
betting, poker, casino games, and virtual games. The company
expects that there will be even more wagering on tennis tournaments
because Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, the largest events in
the world of tennis, are just about to take place.
The women’s final this year which took place between
Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium and Mary Pierce of France,
generated practically 25 percent more in bets as compared
with the 2004 final. This year’s men’s final
between Marianno Puerta of Argentina and Rafael Nadal of
Spain exhibited a slightly higher sum of money wagered than
the preceding year, but the true surprise was the increased
amount of betting on the men’s semi-finals. This increase
in betting came to an amazing 48 percent as compared with
the amount of money wagered on last year’s men’s
semi-finals.
The increase in the dollar amount of the average bet wagered
is yet another gauge of the increase in betting. This year
the average bet placed on the men’s final was twelve
percent higher than the previous year, and the average bet
placed in this year’s men’s semi-finals was almost
fifteen percent higher than it was in 2004.
Marketing Director of Sportsbook.com, Alexis Czajkowsky,
says that there is a steady and consistent growth in the
popularity of gambling on tennis. He went on to say that
what is encouraging about the numbers is that they are high
in spite of the fact that this has been an off year for American
stars such as Agassi, Roddick and the Williams sisters. He
explains that the expected improvement of play of the US
stars at Wimbledon and the US Open means that fan interest
will increase. He argues that there is no reason to expect
anything but an improvement in betting numbers this summer.
The growth in parity within both the men and women’s
games only contributes to the excitement of betting on the
tournaments. In the past it was usually easier to pick a
winner. But now that this has become more difficult and the
competition is much stiffer, betting has become much more
appealing.
Czajkowsky adds that “Sportsbook.com’ odds
makers are working very hard to break down the entire field
before deriving the odds. He points out that we can no longer
rely on just observing the top players. Every player, he
says, needs to be considered, in order to offer fans the
best possible odds anywhere.
