In spite of the fact
that many of the online gambling industry analysts in Britain
had doubted its chance at passage, the Gambling Bill has
been passed by the British Parliament. The nature of the
Bill was to bring up to date and to improve the outmoded
gaming regulations of Britain. These regulations had barely
dealt with the online gambling industry. The Bill proposes
the establishment of a regulatory commission to regulate
all of Britain’s gambling industry. But, the focus
of this new legislation is nevertheless to be online gambling.
This subject has seen a tremendous growth of interest in
it in recent years.
Anthony Wright the spokesman for the department that deals
with online gaming, states that the commission will not be
able to regulate online casinos outside of Britain but will
be allowed to perform investigations, to bring about prosecutions,
to levy fines, and to void bets that are considered unfair.
The new commission is slated to contain about 100 investigators
who will be assigned to regulate the industry. The commission
is to be in operation within a few months.
