Although most articles
that one can read will give you sufficient tips and strategies
for playing Blackjack so that you can start playing with
adequate self-confidence, there are always some pointers
that are not included and which are worth knowing about.
In the following paragraphs such overlooked tips are considered.
The first thing to consider is that in many online Blackjack
games, and this also applies to the European version of Blackjack,
play is carried out in accordance with the “no-peek” rule.
In this case of “no-peek” Blackjack, after the
dealer deals out the cards, he does not look at his cards
to see if he has a Blackjack. Rather than this, he waits
until the player has played his cards and then looks to see
if he has a Blackjack. In the case that the dealer does actually
have a Blackjack, then at this point all players automatically
lose their enter bets, accept for those that might also have
a Blackjack. It should be noted that the lose of bets applies
also to any additional bets that the player may have made
such as in the case of a split or a double.
It is also important to not take the insurance option regardless
of what cards you have, even Blackjack. If you are really
good at counting cards and you know that there are a lot
of tens in the deck, then you might come out ahead by taking
the insurance option. But otherwise, you should avoid this
option and especially if you are not good at counting cards.
Some casinos will offer you an option that allows you to
surrender. In this case you are allowed to walk away from
your play without having to play the remainder of your hand.
This option is usually only available when a minimum of six
decks are in play and you have to give up half of your original
bet. The use of surrender should only be applied when you
are sure that you have less
than a fifty percent chance of winning, when your hand
is really lousy. The most typical form of surrender is late
surrender when the player is allowed to surrender after the
dealer has checked his hand for a Blackjack. But in European
versions of Blackjack and when stated in online games, the “no-peek” rule
cannot be used.
The last point is that there are a lot of Blackjack newcomers
who don't know about the “Five-Card-Charlie” hand.
As the name suggests, this hand is composed of five cards.
All five cards, however, may not exceed 21. when this option
is offered, with the exception of the dealer having Blackjack,
this is an automatic win. The “Five-Card-Charlie” rule
however, does not apply when you split your hand.
