Top Prize in UK Tournament is $125,000

A celebrity kick-off in the shape of a former Miss Great Britain and her top professional football player partner are promised for the Third Annual European Open poker tournament scheduled for December 4 to 11. The initial hands will be played by Danielle Lloyd and Teddy Sheringham as PartyPoker.com hosts the tournament for the third time.

It seems that the organizers may be betting that the old controversy surrounding the two celebrities will grab the headlines - Lloyd apparently lost her title because boyfriend Sheringham had been a judge in the beauty contest.

A referee will be on hand at all times to ensure nothing untoward takes place, "no loving and knowing glances will be exchanged over the table," and nothing else that could remotely be considered misconduct, will be allowed, says a PartyPoker.com spokesman.

"Danielle is used to being the biggest draw wherever she goes, but it is going to be a close run thing this time. There could still be some real tension in the battle of the babes however, as the new presenter of poker on Five is Roxanne Siordia, Maxim's current girl of the year in the U.S.," the spokesman said.

The tournament will be filmed by Matchroom Sport and will air on Channel Five in the United Kingdom early in 2007.

Last year's winner was Ian Frazer, who will return to defend his title and vie for the top prize of $125,000.

Among the other well-known faces confirmed to be taking part in the tournament are snooker legend Steve Davis, Ibiza warhorse Brandon Block, DJ Spoony and "Layer Cake" actor Jamie Foreman.
