David Ross White of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, starting in a field of 784 players in the second major poker tournament run by the River Rock Casino, made it all the ay to the final table and ended up as the winner. The River Rock is situated a short drive from the Vancouver International airport
The tough three day tournament, which was a $2 million No Limit Texas Hold 'Em event, ended last Sunday after a total of 32 hours play. White collected the winner's prize of $600,000 and an expensive watch. White was ecstatic. “I feel fantastic,” he said excitedly. “I think we’ll use this money to pay off some debts and take a holiday. We’re going to have a great time!”
Alaskan Derrick Law finished second, taking $290,000 back to his home in the Yukon.
The big money tournament attracted competitors from Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia and the Yukon and even from as far away as the US states of Florida, Texas, Nevada, California and Washington. Brian Lynch, BCLC Vice-President of Casino Gaming said, “The response we received from players and spectators at this year’s tournament is truly remarkable.”
Some high profile and well-known players competed in the tournament and included Gavin Smith, who finished 27th, Brad “Yukon” Booth and poker legend Johnny Chan.
