Boosting its shares to all new heights, talks about the expressions of interest to buy the British hotels from the Hilton Group have been taking place since October last year. With the many rumors floating around the press, Hilton spokesman, Alex Pagett, was forced to publicly announce the current interest of sale. He says, the Hilton Group will be managing the discussions of the sale of the Hilton International Hotels division with the shareholders' benefit in mind. Interest and offers are expected to arrive from companies such as BC Partners Ltd., Blackstone Group LP and CVC Capital Partners Ltd, according to the Financial Times. Since the British government decided to relax the four-decade old laws guarding the gambling industry, a lot of focus has turned to the UK gambling companies. For example, Britain's largest bingo-hall operator, Gala Group Holdings Plc, last year sealed a contract to buy Coral Eurobet from Charterhouse Capital Partners. The company was sold for almost US$4 billion. It wouldn’t be surprising if the sale of Ladbrokes, the largest bookmaker in the world, reached over US$6 billion. The Hilton group has indeed profited from all the gossip. With stock increasing by almost thirty percent last year, Hilton Group shares have risen by 2.8 percent. The company is now worth almost six billion pounds (British). As global terrorism such as the London bombings and the September 11 attacks continue to negatively affect the lodging division of the Hilton Group, Ladbrokes is doing just the opposite. In fact, it is the fastest growing and biggest business of the Hilton Group. If the sale of the Hotels division goes through, the Hilton Group will become a dominantly gambling company. Already, over sixty percent of the annual profit comes from this division. With demands and popularity for gambling ever increasing, Ladbrokes is looking to expand further into the entertainment industry. Indeed, the value of the industry itself is continually expanding. Forecasts predict that by 2010 it will be worth as much as eleven billion pounds.
