The Spanish media has reported, as well as several Spanish based online gambling websites that are based in that country, saying that the Mossos d'Esquadra, which are a branch of the Spanish police, suddenly appeared at a Barcelona hotel amongst delegates this last weekend, who were a part of an online gambling marketing affiliate conference, who were participating in an informal not for money roll poker tournament.
According to the reports, Spanish law enforcement authorities shut down the tournament, confiscating and removing gambling equipment, which was located at the chic Hotel Princesa Sofia, situated in the coastal city of Barcelona. A statement has yet to be issued by the conference organizers, Casino Affiliate Programs, but apparently, at this time, no one has been taken into custody. At the present time the raid is being discussed on the CAP forums, but no further details have yet to emerge.
According to the Spanish authorities, it has been reported that as many as 42 players were involved in the tournament, having already qualified by playing on online competitions.
Although it was a free roll type of tournament, pointing this out to the police did not seem to help any.
