It has been recently reported by Puls Biznesu, the Polish newspaper, that for the country of Poland, gambling has become big business. This can be seen by the fact that all tighter the Polish people are projected to spend this year, (2008), as much as $7.63 billion on gambling. This reflects the reported fact that Polish players are spending as much as double the time they did two years ago on gambling, and a figure that reflects twice what they spend on beer and medical services. All this on gambling entertainment.
The publication states that if this gambling trend is to continue as it has, that by the year 2009 the market for gambling will be equivocal to as much as that for the mobile telecommunication market.
The Polish Ministry of Finance has released figures recently stating that last year, Poles spent nearly $5.35 billion on gambling. This represents an increase 47.5 percent over that for 2006. The Ministry predicts that at this rate there will be an increase of another 40 percent for 2008, or an amount equal to about $2.23 billion. In the country of Poland, according to the newspaper article, slot machines are the most popular form of gambling. Presently there are a reported 35,000 machines scattered throughout approximately 18,000 pubs, bars and service stations. The figure reported for money spent on these machines by gamblers last year comes to $2.18 billion. This is practically double the figure for 2006. At the same time, the State-owned lottery company, Totalisator Sportowy, in 2007 gained $1.24 billion. This represents an increase of in access of 20 percent over the previous year.
