Once again London's Leicester Square will be the centre of UK poker action next week as a replica of last year's popular "Poker in the Park" festival. The games will take place each evening on August 15th and 16th.
The event is considered to be a run-up to the World Series of Poker Europe, which takes place at the Empire casino on the square between September 19 and October 2. Poker in the Park will heighten interest and prepare players for the WSOP.
The Leicester Square events will run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening, with the Internet 3D poker website PKR.com sponsoring the Poker Dome, in which they will host free hourly Texas Hold'em single-table sit-and-go tournaments.
The event schedule includes a number of interesting competitions, including the SubTV Student Poker League Cup; the LondonPubPoker Trophy; the Royal Surrey Tournament; the Poker Project Trophy; the Nuts Poker League Challenge; the England Poker League Cup and the Bluff Europe Championship.
Throughout the poker festival UltimateBet and Absolute Poker will be hosting a Poker Academy, where the poker pros who endorse these online poker operations will be available to offer free advice and tips to players attending their presentations. Other attractions are book readings and many lectures by big names in the game. Poker goods and accessories will also be on sale.
Steve Hedger, the founder of London Pub Poker, says that Poker in the Park is a great opportunity for people who are new to poker to enjoy themselves and expand their knowledge in the process. “Our leagues have seen waves of new players coming through our doors and learning the game, and Poker in the Park will be the perfect chance for those who haven't been bitten by the bug to finally see why we love the game so much.”
