Starting in a field of 419 players, Kelli Griggs fought her way through and took the top money prize at the Bicycle Casino's Ladies Event this week. The event is more familiarly known as the ‘Ladies Poker Party’.
Ten percent of the prize pool in this tournament was pledged to a breast cancer foundation, which had particularly relevance to the Californian mother of two. Kelli’s own life and family experiences were directly connected to the cause. Her grandmother died of breast cancer and her aunt is currently battling with the disease. Kelli is herself a four year survivor of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. No one was surprised, when this talented player added $2,500 of her own to the donation.
The prize that Kelli won includes being selected for the World Poker Tour's Ladies Night IV which gives her the opportunity to play against women's poker luminaries such as defending Ladies Night III champion Jennifer Tilly, Vanessa Rousso, JJ Liu, Erica Schoenberg and Anahit Galajian at the end of August.
Kelli won a single table satellite last month which paid for her seat at the 2006 WSOP Ladies Event. She parlayed her win into a 59th place money finish out of the record Ladies Event field of 1,128 players.
