70 Players Battle For $200,000 Grand Prize in London

The new queen of the Party Poker.com World Open II championships was crowned at The Poker Den in London this week. A UK mother, Pippa Flanders, took down a starting field of 70 top players that included her and one other woman.

Players arrived from around the world to compete for a cool $200,000 pay packet in the event, but in the end it was Flanders who triumphed and took home the check. This was a major triumph for the lady who only started playing poker professionally in 2002.

Fierce competition came from professionals like Kenna James, Harry Demetriou, Tony Guoga, Roland De Wolfe, Marc Goodwin, Tony Bloom and last year's winner Lee Nelson.

Flanders said, “I still can't believe I beat all those top names to the title. It really is a dream come true. To be one of two women who entered amongst over 70 entrants and to win it is unbelievable! Go girls! I had a fantastic time playing and it was such a wonderful ending that I had always hoped for but never expected.”

A Party Poker.com spokesman said, "What an absolutely amazing finish to a great Party Poker.com World Open.  It's really exciting that Pippa's victory is the first great breakthrough for European women in poker and it demonstrates the rise of women champions around the world in open poker tournaments."

Later this year The PartyPoker.com World Open II will be televised in the U.K. over a period of 16 weeks on Channel 5.
