Ex-Virgin Games Exec To Advise Betfair

The online gambling group Betfair has hired the former managing director of Virgin Games, Oscar Nieboer, as a consultant to advise on branding matters.

Nieboer, who has great experience on the subject, will counsel the firm on brand expansion strategies in time for the implementation of the Gambling Act 2005 in the UK next month. He will also give Betfair the benefit of his experience in developing a marketing plan that will capitalize on the availability of wider advertising opportunities, including television, for online gambling companies in the United Kingdom.
It was Nieboer who directed the successful launch of Virgin's online betting and casino business, and the experience he has gained will enable him to oversee Betfair’s extensive gaming portfolio, which includes the brands Betfair Poker and Betfair Casino.

Nieboer, commenting on his appointment, said that the Betfair brand is built around integrity. “We're moving forward with our plans. We are keeping a careful eye on the DCMS, especially since Gordon Brown's appointment, but we have booked our airtime and are proceeding in line with the legislation.”
