Players Kelli from Pennsylvania and Derek from British Columbia, both from the Kiwi Skill.com site, have the opportunity of becoming $1 million richer. This after qualifying to participate in the World Wide Web games organized by FunTech to be played on Saturday, September 9th at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood.
They will fly to LA to play for the $1 million grand prize and champion’s title “World’s Best Casual Gamer” at the first-ever live tournament at the World Wide Web Games.
Kelli said, "I am delighted to have this opportunity of participating in such an exciting challenge. I am a skillful player at home, but my biggest fear is that I will panic under a live appearance.” There will be 75 finalists competing in the World Wide Web Games, or W3 Games. Players qualified by achieving the highest scores in their tournament bracket in any one of three of the most popular casual games - Bejeweled 2, Solitaire or Zuma.
Commented Gary Jensen of Kiwi Skill: “We’re thrilled that two Kiwi Skill players made it to the finals in the W3 games. We’re rooting for Kelli and Derek all the way and hope one of them end up as the champion. It’s amazing how fast this industry is growing. We are flying in players from around the world to compete for $1 million.”
According to a study by DFC Intelligence earlier this year, an estimated 124 million players now frequent skill gaming sites. The skill gaming industry certainly is soaring. The casual games industry is serious business with expectations of growing to $1.56 billion by 2008.
This form of gaming has become highly popular because of the ease of use and the ability to challenge others to a friendly game of skill online, where a wide range of games is available. Players pit their skills against others in real time tournaments, or play head to head for cash prizes.
Kiwi Skill is a member of the Kiwi Gaming family which includes Kiwi Casino, Kiwi Bingo and Kiwi Poker. Kiwi Gaming is an independent off-shore operation and part of the land based Christchurch Casino Group.
