Party Gaming Acquires Gamebookers

Speculation has been rife in the online gaming industry concerning Party Gaming's intention to purchase a sports betting firm. Now the wait is over. This week the online poker firm confirmed its purchase of Trident Gaming’s Gamebookers, a sportsbook currently operating from the Isle of Man and licensed in Antigua.

While announcing the deal, Party Gaming’s CEO Mitch Garber pointed out that the acquisition is part of the firm’s continuing strategy to diversify its product line and its geographical perspective.

"The acquisition of Gamebookers is an important step forward in diversifying Partygaming's business from both a product and geographic perspective," said Garber. "We believe that sports betting will be a valuable addition to our integrated gaming platform, which we expect to provide excellent cross-selling opportunities for our expanding base of customers outside the US."

Gamebookers currently offers online sports betting to some 50 000 active
customers in 140 countries. However, Garber was quick to state that the firm will not accept betting action from the U.S. This is despite the fact that Party Gaming generates the bulk of its revenue from customers in the US.  In the last year, the firm has sought to diversify its markets, targeting Europe and Asia in an attempt to reduce its dependence on the U.S.
