The Ante Up for Africa tournament this year's, will receive support from many big name poker pros and poker playing celebrities. The tournament is scheduled to take police the afternoon of July 2nd at the Rio casino in Las Vegas, and will be taking advantage of the interest that the World Series of Poker is receiving at that this setting.
This is the second time that this charity event is being carried out. It was conceived of by actor Don Cheadle along with poker ace Annie Duke with the purpose of raising money for the victims of the Darfu Sudan fiasco and also bolstering public awareness of this humanitarian crisis. When it was first carried out, the event raised a noteworthy $700,000 for this cause, thanks to the stellar appearance of players and Hollywood celebrities, who encouraged the results by donating as much as half of their winnings.
Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Ray Romano, and Adam Sandler will be Joining Duke and Cheadle at the event along with NBA star Jason Kidd, together with TNT analyst Charles Barkley, the NBA Hall of Famer will be comedians Kevin Pollack, George Lopez, and Cheryl Hines in addition to Fallout Boy band member musician Joe Trohman.
Internationally respected poker names such as Andy Bloch, Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Erik Seidel, Chris Ferguson, Phil Gordon, Phil Laak and Phil Hellmuth Jr. will provide an equally powerful lineup. WSOP director Jeffrey Pollack when announcing this year's event, said that the poker society is now being given the exceptional opportunity to help relieve the suffering in Darfur. He notes that the stars and celebrities are once again coming out for this special event and that they encourage everyone to register early before tickets are sold out. He also said that the event Ante Up for Africa, is designed to be completed in around five hours or less.
there are a number of publicity opportunities for the cause in Darfur included in the World Series of Poker which is being covered by greater than 600 journalists and which is represented by players from 85 countries worldwide. There are two charites to which funds will be sent and these include ENOUGH and Not On Our Watch.
