Eight thousand players are expected to compete at the World Series of Poker later this Year. The competition for women is also heating up. According to 888 Poker, it will sponsor a lean and mean team of women. The team will include players from Europe. Already on their way to Las Vegas to compete as part of the 888 Poker's challenge are Tiffany Williamson, the Gutshot regular with a 2005 main event 15th place to her name; diamond winning Eunice Waterfield, winner of 888.com Women's Poker UK Open; Rhowena Colclough, who is taking The Mansion Poker Dome event by storm, and respected poker player Veronique Gourdon. These members did not qualify via the internet. Instead they are a carefully managed team, selected by 888 Poker for " high impact and exciting play." Last years ladies bracelet was taken by Jennifer Tilly. However, this year looks to be a tougher event. Rumors are that Paris Hilton and Jennifer Aniston will be taking part in the 2006 event. According to Jonny Natas of 888.com, there should be no reason why women cannot be major competitors in live poker. The type of sponsorship currently undertaken by 888.com is intended to develop to future poker tours for women. The poker team is set to arrive in Las Vegas in the first week in July. They will head of, directly, to a poker camp headed by poker legend, Padraig Parkinson. Parkinson will head a two-day intensive training session.
