Porto, Portugal is to be the venue for the World Poker Congress which will take place from June 24th-25th at the Sheraton Hotel and Spa. The WPC has announced the confirmed dates in addition to the list of speakers. The agenda includes several workshops and discussion panels including discussions on rakes and bonuses, expanding poker markets, and tournament rules and standards.
Now in its fourth successful year many of those who have participated in the past have spoken highly of the opportunities for networking that the conference presents. The overall goal of the World Poker Congress is to create a setting where business leaders from both online poker rooms and brick and mortar land based casinos can meet and discuss those issues that are important to them. There will be a division at the conference between the brick and mortar or live poker interests and those involved in online casinos or the online poker interests. Televised poker sessions will be dealt with and the association between poker players and sports bettors. Another issue of interest will be developing player trust for online players.
The expanding Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe poker markets will be a focus of discussion at this year’s conference will focus on the growing in. The possibilities for joining forces between live and online poker interests for furthering the cause of the game of poker will be a topic of discussion for day two.
The planned keynote speakers are Steve Lipscomb, who is the founder CEO of the World Poker Tour, and PartyGaming’s founder and CEO since June of 2008, Jim Ryan. The topic of discussion “Remaking the Poker Market,” will be of interest to all interests involved. According to the World Poker Congress web site, the speakers will deal with issues that cover the challenges of surviving and thriving in a poker market that is constantly on the move. CEO Ryan has excessive experience in the subject of negotiating the constantly changing moods of the online poker market while the World Poker Congress’s Lipscomb has been a major part and played a central role as regards the success of the World Poker Tour. He was instrumental in the development of the Congress’s subscription-based online poker room.
Lipscomb describes the World Poker Congress as being different from other like conferences. He points out that there will be present the key decision makers from the most moving companies in the field of poker who come to do business.
