The country of Canada is generally thought of for its winters, which can be as long as six months. You may picture yourself as sitting in your car not being able to drive out of your own driveway through the highly steeped snow banks. In Nova Scotia at least, which is located on the Atlantic side of the continent, it may now be possible to sit back and forget the winter and the snow while playing one of your favorite online casino games or a sociable game of internet poker. Although these pastimes are being barred to residents of many parts of the world, they may soon be available in this eastern Canada province.
At the present time, the Nova Scotia provincial lottery corporation is seeking to appoint a software developer to create a sports betting platform in addition to the required infrastructure for administering such a system. With such a system in place in the near future, it may be possible for Canadians from Nova Scotia to place bets on pro sports.
The Atlantic Lottery Corp has set up a website that is seeking tenders for completion of this project. In stipulates that in order to remain relevant to website players the corporation must deliver what the player wants in a way that is safe and in the most entertaining way possible.
Law partner of the Toronto law firm Dickinson Wright, Michael Lipton, supervisor of the Canadian gaming section of the firm, says that these events mean that change is in the wind. He says that the lottery corporation is in the position to reap vast revenues from online sports betting online, since taxes collected from online sports betting can lead to huge windfalls for the four Atlantic provinces. Mr. Lipton is one who agrees that it is time for governments took advantage of the enormous sums that have been coming to offshore betting firms for years.
Critics of such plans are common and Liberal justice critic Michel Samson says that introducing more gaming may have a destructive result. Mr. Samson questions whether any such offering will include controls in place to prevent minors from making online wagers. In response to this, Mr. Lipton says that there is software that is available to screen clients and make sure that minors do not get involved.
Mr. Lipton concludes that the Internet is with us, and all around us, all of the time. The bottom line is that people have come to trust the system, and that there are jurisdictions that regulate them and that have very high standards.
