Play it Safe course against underage and problem gambling

One hundred managers will be participating in a global training course to be held in London.
Additionally, the online standards and player protection group, eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA) will be holding its second global training series in London at the end of May. The session will focus on promoting responsible gambling. One hundred Internet casino and poker rooms will be participating in this.
Concern around the ongoing problem of underage gambling and problem gamblers continues to disturb casino managers. For this reason, managers from around the world, who are responsible for these issues will participate in a two day intensive training workshop. They will receive training from a team of specialists from Global Gambling Guidance Group (G4).

In 2005 a similar session took place in South Africa for eCOGRA sealed sites.

CEO of eCOGRA, Andrew Beveridge, stated that the course is a requirement for online casinos and poker rooms maintaining the Play it Safe seal. As part of the contract it is incumbent upon members of staff to receive training for effective and responsible gaming measures.
Operators are aware of the long term benefits of maintaining player safe sites. With millions of players worldwide participating in online gaming, casinos have a major stake in promoting a reputable reputation.

the course involves a series of lectures, practical workshops and homework. The course teaches the managers how to spot problem gamblers using a technique known as Brief Intervention Techniques (BIT).
The lessons additionally include role play exercises teaching how to intervene and deter possible problematic situations. Analysis of case history material will also be looked at as well as how to develop the best front line strategies via email and telephone consultations with the players.
The domino effect of problem gambling on families will also be examined.
Responsible gambling is vital for the industry from both a compassionate point of view as well a business point of view.

As Beverage states, those who allow underage and problem gamblers are morally wrong. Additionally their actions effect the industry as a whole.
