It has been announced that Season 6 of the World Poker Tour will take place in the vibrant Spanish coastal city of Barcelona. International poker players are expected to fly in from around the world for the major event. The venue is to be the Casino Barcelona which is owned by Grup Peralada in the city.
It is hoped that the WPT - Grup Peralada collaboration will be the start of a closer relationship leading on to other activities. The two organizations are already discussing future poker ventures in Spain and the possibility of a Spanish tour that would televise events at Grup Peralada casinos elsewhere. New ideas for events in Portugal and South America are being discussed.
Steve Lipscomb, CEO of WPT, who has described the partnership as a ground breaking deal, said: "This is a very important move for us as we continue to expand our business in the European market."
Oliver Zugel, the casino division chief of Grup Peralada agreed, commenting: "It will create a new standard for premium, televised poker events in Europe. It will also set the foundations for an Iberian tour involving other leading casinos in Spain and Portugal."
The fourteenth WPT tournament will be filmed.
