Amatuer titled this year's Irish poker player

This year's Irish Open Poker Champion is Dubliner Vincent Melinn. With a prize of Euro 350 000 in his pocker, the Irish poker player, couldn’t get much happier.
The fifty-four year old player won the six player final table. the game was viewed live on Sky Sports television and took place at the Royal Dublin Society. Melinn however, doesn’t come with and extensive background in live poker. Indeed, the accountant by day had only played live poker once before. Melinn won from a field of over 350 players. This included several top professional players. The sold out event was sponsored by Paddy Power Poker.  At the final table, across from Melinn sat Ian Woodley, Brendan Ruane (Irish) Jon Wong (UK), Conor Smyth (Irish) and Pual Daly (Irish).

While it came with a great package, Melinn says he was more interested in the title. According to his playing history, he had only played one live tournament before, and in that he went out after only one hand.
Nevertheless, once this tournament had started, he knew he had a good chance. But most of all is the opportunity to have his name on the trophy. The second prize was taken home by Londoner Ian Woodley. This prize consisted of Euro 182 000.

The 25th Annual Irish Open Poker Tournament took place over the long Easter weekend. It had a guaranteed prize pool of Euro 1 million.
The contest was held at Jurys Ballsbridge – a hotel in Dublin. The tournament is considered one of the richest events on the international poker circuit. Buy in totaled Euro 3200 and there was an extra Euro 50 000 from sponsorship monies.
