It is reaching the point when marathon poker session profits might easily reach seven figures. For those who possess the means and stamina to attempt a stint at playing poker online, this knowledge could function as a tempting lure. Staggering amounts of money have been wagered in the high stakes online poker games over the past few years. Now however, it appears that clearly the window of opportunity to play those high stakes games has become increasingly limited.
Although there are many factors that can be said to be contributing to this situation and a variety of possibilities, many people perceive the ban in the United States directed toward online gambling as the major reason for this. There are still those however, who are still up to the challenge and desire to put real cash on the line in order to get the big rewards.
One example of this would be U.S. born Tom Dwan of New Jersey. He is already viewed as being among the best poker players in the world, but this champ is intensifying the scene with a challenge to the poker table that makes the leading name poker aces think twice before facing him. As this 22-year-old waits patiently for some high rollers to take up his challenge, but anyone willing to play him at $100,000 a try are almost nonexistent. At any one time, it is possible that there is as much as half a million dollars being wagered on the web.
Young Dwan’s challenge is to play against anyone for 50,000 hands at no-limit hold’em or pot-limit Omaha with the minimum stakes set at $200/$400. Dwan and those opposing him need to have $40,000 for each table played and they plan to play a minimum of four tables.
Dwan is offering a payout to anyone who comes out even as little as $1 ahead at the end of 50,000 hands, the sum of $1.5 million. On the other hand, if it is Dwan who is ahead, he would be owed $500,000. In addition, the player who wins will keep the profit he makes from this marathon session.
The way Ben Sulsky sees it, a top online professional player, it is very possible that someone will win or lose $5 million or more during the course of the game. In addition, according to Sulsky it probably won’t be necessary to go through the entire 50,000 hands before it is apparent who the better player is, since one or the other will likely buy out. But, he says, the factor of ego is such a major component in this match for both sides that there is always the possibility of a bloodbath.
It appears that both the multiple winner of the World Series of Poker, Phil Ivey, and Finland's Patrik Antonius are ready for some action. Since the larger payout may be in their favor, it may be hard for them to pass up this opportunity. However, things turn out, one thing is for sure, this will certainly turn out to be some kind of white knuckle head to head excitement.
