University students becoming a major segment of the poker market.
In Britain many of the over 18s are already skilled and established players. That’s why Poker Room will be launching its first UK nationwide Student Poker Tour, to target this rising niche in the market. The tour will be conducted at universities throughout Britain. The purpose will be to create a targeted competitive arena for these players. The biggest university towns, during March, will be hosting student Texas Hold'em poker competitions, to establish the best player within the student category. The tour has already begun. In fact, it started last month in Liverpool. It will be moving on to Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Birmingham and London and finally concluding in Bristol. For most students, the first round of the tour will take place at their own universities at their local student hangouts. The players will be able to access expert tips for playing from PokerRoom.com. The tournaments will take place online and the winner from each university will proceed to the final round. The final ten online poker players will meet face to face (in the online sense) at the final on March 11 at PokerRoom.com. The winner will take away a brand new sports car valued at over 15,000 pounds. Patrick Selin, PokerRoom.com's CEO stated that the launch of the competition recognizes the growing body of students participating in online poker. According to Selin, the students present a relatively untapped market with which his company is attempting to establish a relationship with. PokerRoom.com wants to demonstrate to the students that anyone can become a great poker player given the right information and know how.
