Magna Entertainment looks to be employing a controversial figure to head its electronics operations of its Jockey Club. Indeed, Joe DeFrancis, CEO of the Maryland Jockey Club has been pinned for the position. The controversy lies less in the appointment and more in the role. In fact, the position will involve overseeing Magna's interactive betting channels. This will take place through the new uber-company known as PariMax. With the issues still unresolved between the US and Antigua at the World Trade Organization, where America continues to maintain its stance against online gambling, DeFrancis's new position reinforces America's hypocrisy on the topic. Part of the Parimax company includes XpressBet. XpressBet is an online betting service. Furthermore it is also involved in HRTV, a horse-racing channel and has links with MagnaBet. MagnaBet offers online wagering and gambling in several countries. Magna is also a broadcaster of live races from Magna tracks and has a 30 percent stake in the Hunt-Valley betting systems company, AmTote International.
