Hand held gaming devices should soon be available

"Systems are secure and reliable," says Nevada Gaming Commission

Bureaucracy and government legislation always take a while until they reach implementation stage.
However, thanks to a key finding by the Nevada Gaming Commission, the use of hand-held gambling communication devices, to be used on casino premises, may be closer that anticipated.
Before being able to fully implement the mobile gambling regulations, a preliminary step, to ensure security is required. This was determined by the gambling regulators. They decide through a unanimous vote weather the systems are both secure and reliable. This includes making sure that minors aren’t able to access them and that they can be made exclusive and restricted to authorized casino and gaming zones.

The devices themselves are hand-held and wireless. Their intention is to increase the areas available to players to wage bets. With these devices, players can wager from buffer tables to poolside loungers. You no longer have to be in the actual casino to play their games.
The commission is holding a meeting in Las Vegas on March 23. The meeting will determine the adoption of rules for the devices. Even though one application has already been filed from the manufacturer, Diamond Systems, the devices will not be available immediately, and is expected to take several more months yet.

Bill Bible, who heads the Nevada Resort Association, said, after the group's vote, that the meeting will be one of the final rungs of the procedure before casino licensees will be able to purchase and utilize the devices.
For many proponents of internet gambling, the wireless option is a symbolic foot in the door. The future leap from the wireless devices to online gaming itself has been narrowed with the imminent introduction of the new legislation.
