University student cashes in on $1.3 million poker game

While most established and experienced players come out short in poker, Steve Paul Ambrose, a 22 year-old Ontario student, has walked away with over $1.3 million.
The University of Waterloo student spent a week in paradise playing for the top stop spot.
The Third Annual PokerStart Caribbean Adventure poker competition was held at the Atlantis Casino Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
The pool included over 700 participants and was played over a week.
A student of science and business, Steve needs neither – or the lectures he may have missed - to comprehend the phenomenal prize he has won.
In fact, the prize includes a $25,000 seat to participate in the World Poker Tour's championship tournament in Las Vegas early this year.
Of course Steve's family monitored his progress like hawks.
George Ambrose, Steve's older brother spent the whole time online searching for updates. According to George, the family is totally thrilled at Steve's success.
While most people paid the $8,000 dollars entry fee to participate, Steve paid $102 and was able to enter by winning several other online competitions.
The winnings came as much of a surprise to Steve as it did to his family. In fact, his brother claims that Steve cannot boast very much experience.
He says Steve has played online poker for no more than two years and has barely faced opponents in the flesh. Steve accrued as much experience as he could by playing with uncles and family members during Christmas. Known to his family as a quiet thinker and problem solver, Steve's traits are clearly suited to the game.
