Several senior positions were recently appointed in the UK Gambling Commission.

As the new Director of Licensing and Compliance, Hazel Canter will be overseeing the teams carrying out licensing.
This will include the licenses of gambling operators and industry personnel, as outlined by last year's Gambling Act. Canter has been in this line of work since 2003 where she was in charge of licensed in Ofcom.
Head of Enforcement was appointed to Andrew Lyman. His role will be the establishment of the enforcement team within the commission. They are attributed with enforcing gambling regulations by taking action against those trespassing them.
This includes pursuing illegal gambling, prosecuting Gambling offences, maintaining contact between police and other law enforcement as well as regulating actions with licensed operators.
Starting in February this year, Bill Butler will be Director of Corporate Services.
This role will lead the finance, HR and IT departments.
Bill has been serving at the Health Commission as Head of Finance. In this position, he was responsible for all issues surrounding the financial strategy and management of the commission.
Joining around the same time as Butler, Lynne Duffill will also assume her position February this year.
As head of Human Resources, Duffill is charged with a major recruitment campaign. The commission is planning on expanding its staff of forty to over 250.
Chief Executive of the Gambling Commission, Jenny Williams, announced the new appointments.
She also outlined their new challenge to establish the organization in Birmingham.
Starting from nothing, the commission is on a mission to recruit staff, implement new IT systems and implement and develop work practices.
All this has to take place before the end of 2007 when the Gambling Act kicks in.
Feeling confident in her newly appointed executive team, Williams is prepared for the challenges and rewards of building a new and major public sector organization.
The Gambling Commission will be taking over the role of the Gaming Board.
In the past, it was the Gaming Board that regulated casinos and gaming establishments.
Additionally, the Gambling Commission will be regulating remote and offshore betting. The Commission will be endowed with extra legal powers to enable it to adequately monitor the industry and prosecute those participating in illegal acts.
The Commission single purpose is to keep the industry as clean as possible, and protecting those most vulnerable.
